This extended 6 weeks course offers more time to practice the foundations and experiment with more complex forms. You will move through two distinct project cycles, allowing you to refine your technique and finish a diverse collection of work.

  • Week 1: Foundations (Project 1) – Introduction to clay preparation (wedging), centering on the wheel, and throwing the fundamental cylinder shape.

  • Week 2: Strengthening the Basics – Continuing to work on centering and height. We will focus on consistency and muscle memory to ensure your walls are even.

  • Week 3: Trimming & Handles – Learning the art of trimming to refine your leather-hard pieces and add foot rings and attaching handles for mugs or pitchers.

  • Week 4: Form & Curves (Project 2) – Moving beyond the cylinder to explore from and curves. This week focuses on open forms like small bowls, cups, ceramic pots for plants and tapered silhouettes like vases.

  • Week 5: Final Trimming – Finishing the pieces from Project 2.

  • Week 6: Glazing – An introduction to glazing techniques and chemistry to bring colour, texture, and vitrification to your finished work.

  • The projects will be adjusted depending on the individual level of returned students.
